（4）延长产品的保质期，方便产品的流通。采用真空、充气、无菌等包装机，可位产品的流通范围更加广泛，延长产品的保质期。
 
（5）可减少包装场地面积，节约基建投资。当产品采用手工包装时，由于包装工人多，工序不紧凑，所以包装作业占地面积大，基建投资多，而采用机械包装，物品和包装材料的供给比较集中，各包装工序安排比较紧凑，减少了包装的占地面积，可以节约基建投资。
